The Shark Savers Web SiteNow in its second generation, our web site was launched in November, 2007. The web site is a constant work-in-progress and labor of love, and aims to be one of the best resources for information about sharks and activities people can undertake to help shark conservation.Education PresentationsWe began with one presentation about sharks. This has continued to be expanded and interpreted for different age groups. Local organizingWe have begun the process of mining our extensive global membership list and helping to seed local Shark Savers groups. Local Shark Fin Soup/Shark Products CampaignWe have developed materials and guidelines for creating local campaigns to reduce consumption in shark products. PetitionsPetitions can be a very effective means for both getting the word out on a particular shark conservation issue and giving people an easy-to-participate way of lending their voice to the issue. We have had about 5 petitions so far, and apply learning from each one to the next. Community fairs and trade showsWe participate in fairs and shows related to the environment and diving. This is yet another way to get the word out and to suppress consumption of shark products. We have designed materials so that others can participate with fairs and shows in their area. Development and fundraising of other programsOur continuing challenge is identifying the right programs to focus on, developing them into viable programs, and then to seek funding for them. Status:This program represents the core of Shark Savers ongoing activities. It is mostly funded by donations that come from our members and supporters from around the world. The effort involved with this program, including the maintainance and development of content for the web site, is done on a volunteer basis at this time. |

Shark Savers' first and ongoing program educates people about the value of sharks to the ecosystem and counters the myths that keep people from caring about their plight. We develop and deliver educational presentations and create materials so that others may further the cause of shark conservation in their community. Our activities include:
